Parham Maghsoodloo, from Gorgan, Iran, is a Grandmaster - achieving this top-tier status in 2016.
Maghsoodloo first came into the limelight during his participation at the 2015 FIDE World Cup, where he faced top competition including Wesley So. His resilience led to him gaining both the International Master and Grandmaster titles by FIDE, and he represented Iran in the 42nd Chess Olympiad. He has triumphed in the Iranian Chess Championship on three occasions — 2017, 2018, and 2021.
His major breakthrough came in 2018 when he became the World Junior Chess Champion with a stellar performance, securing the title with a game to spare and finishing with a brilliant 9½/11. This victory underscored his potential and placed him as a top contender on the international circuit.
In recent times, his form remained impressive into 2024. Although his FIDE ranking sees him as the 23rd in the world as of September 2024, his peak performance in December 2023 took him to the 12th spot globally, reflecting a player capable of competing among the chess elite.
His participation and results in international competitions such as the Tata Steel Challengers and the Asian Games, where he was a part of the gold-winning men’s team in 2022, solidify his standing as a leading figure in global chess.
